Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota is a state-of-the-art specialty center located in the beautiful area of University Park in Sarasota/Bradenton. We specialize in small animal veterinary surgery, advanced imaging (such as CT and ultraound) and rehabilitation. As the foremost specialist in veterinary surgery in the area, we use a large amount of medical supplies, medications, and implants. With two boarded veterinary surgeons and a surgical intern we are very busy clinic!

Overview

Veterinary Surgery Center of Sarasota is looking for an Inventory Specialist to monitor stock levels of critical medical supplies and place new orders as needed. This position requires a driven individual with attention to detail and who is a self-starter, able to work without being micromanaged. The ideal candidate must be computer literate and have solid math skills. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are a must; you must be able to multitask, overseeing multiple back-orders and shipments for different vendors. Additionally, collaboration and communication with co-workers and the managers and veterinarians is critical. Previous exposure and knowledge of medical/veterinary goods and materials is recommended but not a prerequisite.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Create purchase orders and place orders for all hospital medical supplies, non-medical supplies and marketing material; receive shipments and orders and track backorders
  • Oversee the organization of medical and non-medical supply backstock and re-supply closets, oversee a labelling system of the supply shelves, monitor backorders
  • Restock medical treatment areas, procedure areas, and bathrooms throughout the day to ensure the nursing and assistant teams have the materials needed for patient care
  • Process all equipment repair requests, maintain a log of equipment out for repair, maintain relationships with repair vendors, process returned equipment when returned to service
  • Pick-up local orders (e.g. BJ’s, Target, Home Depot) using a company supplied vehicle
  • Monitor stock levels and expirations of medications, bandage materials, medical goods (catheters, needles, etc…) and janitorial products (i.e. paper towels, toiletries, cleaning products) 
  • Must be familiar with computers, internet and MS Office programs
  • Must be able to handle multiple unrelated tasks simultaneously while working in a busy environment
  • Maintain positive and cooperative relationships with teammates
  • Willingness to learn, be guided and pursue continuing education opportunities
  • Work well independently and in a group
  • Packaging media for surrounding veterinary clinics and schedule package pickups
  • Maintain off-site storage unit where additional clinic medical materials are stored and monitor stock levels 
  • Maintain relationships with vendor representatives in person and over the phone and email to remain knowledgeable about specials or upcoming shortages 
  • Monitor on-site medical sharps levels and arrange disposal
  • Possess sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while in the hospital including the ability to manipulate (lift, carry, move) 50 lbs. or more; walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch intermittently, and stand for long periods of time
  • Professional appearance required; scrubs are to be worn at all times

Qualifications

• Education: High school or higher
• Degree or License: HS diploma (Associates degree or higher encouraged)
• Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years in general veterinary or a medical practice
